I am the granddaughter of Mary Lou Wilson, who inspired me to start this business. When I was a little girl, I would go to her wooden house on Black Bottom Rd. (now known as West McIver Rd.) located in Darlington, South Carolina. Grandma's house did not have all the modern essentials, like a bathroom or running water. However, on her mantel, there were all kinds of trinkets that she would call "What Nots," as in "what not" to touch, whenever I asked. I was fascinated. These trinkets were beautiful pieces: figurines, teacups, hair brooches, and mirrors, which were one of her favorite things to collect. Instead of wallpaper, her walls were full of decorative inserts from bedspread packages. We would go to town every month when she got her Social Security check.  She would pick up at least one item for her and one for me from the general stores to put on her mantel. This passion to collect and display treasures stems from her, and Janice's Best Kept Secret is in honor of her legacy, a woman that didn't have much but always knew how to make something beautiful out of nothing.
